De-politicising the fight against corruption

While the Government would do well not to dismiss the negative results of the latest Corruption Perceptions Index published by Transparency International, the issue of corruption in Maltese public life should not be the subject of political knock-about between the main parties. Perhaps it is time for civil society to take a more vocal role in the fight against corruption. Setting up a Maltese TI chapter would be one way of doing that. Most EU countries have one.

India vs Pakistan

This report in the Times of India indicates that Malta candidate Michael Frendo stands to gain from the emerging row between the two Indian candidates for the post of Secretary General of the Commonwealth. The new twist is that the non-official candidate from India has attracted the support of Pakistan.
