Robert Micallef is Malta editor for Eurobarometer surveys published by the European Commission and teaches European Policy at the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accounts of the University of Malta.

Robert Micallef was employed as an economist with the European Commission for a number of years and was a senior member of the European Union Delegation to Malta during the years of EU-Malta accession negotiations. Between 2004 and 2005 he was a member of the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University  in the Czech Republic.

In 1999, Robert Micallef was nominated as an official member of the European Union Presidency Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly. For a number of years, he was active within the United Nations system in Geneva and New York regularly participating in the UN Commission on Social Development and the UN Commission on Sustainable Development as well as in numerous UN summits and conferences. He has also worked as a management consultant and as a Trainer in Capacity Building for the Council of Europe.

Robert Micallef studied politics and economics at the University of Oxford and was later awarded the British Chevening Scholarship for research studies at the London School of Economics and the University of Bristol. He graduated Master of Arts from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, the oldest graduate school of international affairs in the US jointly administered by Tufts and Harvard Universities. He graduated Master in Business Administration in Technology Management from the Grenoble Graduate School of Business in France and obtained a Masters degree in European Spatial Planning in an EU sponsored graduate programme led by the Universities of Catania, Barcellona, Roskilde and Malta. In addition, he obtained an Advanced Diploma in European Studies from the European College of Parma.

In 2004, Robert Micallef  was elected by the Malta Labour Party General Conference to stand as a candidate for the European Parliament Elections. He participated in the founding congress of the Party of European Socialists in 1992 and in the following year was elected European Secretary of the International Union of Socialist Youth in Vienna. He was a founding delegate of ECOSY, the European Community Organisation of Socialist Youth and elected international secretary of the MLP's Labour Youth Forum.

He was elected President of the National Youth Council of Malta, President of the Ghaqda tal-Malti(Universita) and Vice President of the International Youth and Student Movement for the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. In the EYF General Congress in Salzburg, Austria, Robert was elected member of the leadership bureau of the European Youth Forum for a two-year term based in Brussels responsible for external relations and the United Nations. Robert also served as National Deputy President – Malta for Junior Chamber International, a world-wide federation of young leaders.

In 2005 he won the e-journalism award at the Malta Journalism Awards He is European editor for maltamediaonline.com as well as contributing editor for aboutmalta.com, the online guide to everything about the Maltese islands. At Oxford, he contributed regularly to student journalism and was co-editor of a student journal.
